Week 1 against the Jefferson Scorpions

On Friday, May 14th, the Jefferson Scorpions traveled to take on the Kenosha Sabers on Ameche Field.

The Kenosha Sabers came out of the contest victorious with a score of 32-6.  The first score came from the power running of Running Back, Josh Trice.  The second score came through the air from a pass from Gabe Bader to rookie Wide Receiver Nate Moses.  The third score of the first half came from a catch over two defenders in the endzone by wide receiver Eddie LeMay.  At the end of the first half, the score was 19-0, with the defense only giving up a few plays.

The second half was a little bit slow moving for the Kenosha Sabers as they attempted to establish the run game as well as an aerial assault.  The Scorpions defense were very stingy the entire game and their physicality was a great test for the Sabers.  Josh Trice was able to break a long run for the first score of the second half.  The final score of the game came from a deep pass to Nate Moses with just under two minute remaining in the game.

Some things that need to be improved include the following: eliminating the turnovers, controlling the penalties, organizing our rotations more fluidly, and staying confident as we move into our second game of the second against the Racine Razorbacks.

We want to thank the Jefferson Scorpions for a tough, physical week 1 matchup.  Although the score says one thing, the Scorpions came out with great intensity and showed off the great talent of Jefferson.  Good luck to you guys for the rest of the season.

Scrimmage against the West Allis Gators

On April 30th, the West Allis Gators traveled to Kenosha to take on the Sabers on Red Arrow Park.  After a little over an hour of play, the Sabers came out victorious 54-6.

The beginning of the contest put the Sabers on offense and after a couple of quick throws, a long run was broken by rookie James Jones for the first score of the game.  After a good showing of defense, the ball was given back to the Sabers' offense where rookie running back, Josh Trice broke a long run for the Sabers' second score of the contest.  Running back's James Jones and Josh Trice would go on to score four of the eight touchdowns of the contest.  Two more touchdowns came from  the arm of quarterback, Gabe Bader.  Steve Thorpe and Nate (stay tuned for full roster name) would be the recipients of the two aerial scores.

The defense was responsible for the remaining two touchdowns of the contest, both coming from Cornerback Lawrence Wallace in the form of an interception return and a fumble recovery.

The Gators capitalized off of a lapse in coverage through the air with a very good throw from the Gators' quarterback to a sure-handed Gators' receiver.  The numerous blitz packages and onslaught of the well-rounded running game that were thrown at the Sabers were quite formidable.

The score may say that the Sabers came out victorious, however, the Gators presented a good amount of talent that often were problematic to not only the Sabers' offense, but also to the defense.

The Sabers have a lot of work to do to eliminate any and all mistakes that may present themselves in the game.  Although this game was a preaseason contest, a lesson must be taken from this and applied to each and every practice and reverberate into the regular season.
